Artist: Lauren Daigle
Single: “Come Alive (Dry Bones)
5/5 Stars

“Come Alive (Dry Bones)” is a beautiful song written by Lauren Daigle. Lauren Daigle is from New Orleans, Louisiana where her big break came from being a contestant on American Idol. “Come Alive” comes from the Scripture passage Ezekiel 37:4-10 and Luke 15:21-24. The passage in Ezekiel talks about dry bones being prophesized over and then coming to life. The idea that old, dusty, dirty bones could be raised by God to make this wonderful army is truly an uplifting thing. In Daigle’s song, she is pleading for dry bones to come alive, calling out to “dead hearts.” Compared to God we’re all dirty dry bones, but with just mere words He can make us into something special. This song’s beautiful message of bringing the breath of life into the lifeless is something that shouldn’t be missed, definitely five stars.

Artist: Andy Mineo
Single: “Heart My Heart
4/5 Stars

Andy Mineo is an amazing Christian rapper hailing from Syracuse, New York. His recent album Uncomfortable (2015) has become one of my favorite albums to listen to. One of the songs that stood out to me the most is “Hear My Heart.” The song is about someone named Grace and I assumed the singer was talking to God. As you listen to the song, you realize that he’s talking about his sister, Grace. She was born deaf and he speaks of his regrets that he never tried to learn sign language. My favorite line from the song is, “I pray you forgive me for the years I lived blind.” This resonated with me because sometimes we completely ignore God’s miracles and the signs that He’s there. Even though we’re not actually bind, we’re blind to what God is doing right in front of us. Uniquely, the music video is entirely in sign language, a 4 out of 5 stars!
